Federal Grants for Australian Businesses

These ongoing federal grants and incentives are available to eligible Australian businesses in 2025. This article takes you through some of the most exciting and available opportunities right now.

Export Market Development Grant (EMDG)

It’s the grant that helps Aussie SMEs take on the world! Round 4 of the  Export Market Development Grant  opened in November 2024. Applications have now closed, with successful grant agreements to be issued to recipients starting January 2025.

Research & Development (R&D) Tax Incentive

The  Research and Development Tax Incentive  is offered by the Australian Government to entice businesses to invest in research and development. Generous tax offsets of up to 48.5% or 48.5 cents are on offer. The size of the offset is determined by the entity’s aggregated turnover and tax rate.

Applications close ten months  after the end of each R&D-participating company’s respective annual financial reporting period.

    Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) Funding Opportunities

    The Advancing Renewables Program (ARP) and the Innovation Fund are both open and ongoing initiatives of the Federal Government, and several other  funding options are waiting to be discovered  that focus on everything from renewable energy research to large-scale deployment!

    Screen Australia Funding and Support

    Screen Australia offers funding to support the development, production, and marketing of Australian screen content, as well as for developing Australian-based talent and screen production businesses. They offer an array of  Screen Australia funding and support programs  for things like documentaries, feature length films, travel grants and more. Check their site for specific deadlines and get in touch with us if you need help applying.

    Breakthrough Victoria Fund

    Breakthrough Victoria is a government-owned company that manages a $2 billion investment fund to bring Victoria to the forefront of global innovation. Breakthrough Victoria offers four different funding streams, which are ongoing opportunities. These are: Foundation Technology and Platform Projects, Creating the Pipeline, Catalyst for Change, and Catalyst for Growth.     VicScreen Funding & Support

    VicScreen (formerly Film Victoria) has a variety of funds and incentives available for writers, producers, and game developers alike.

    Small Business Grants in QLD

    Grants available in 2025 for businesses based in Queensland can be found on the  Queensland Government Grants Finder .

    Female Founders Co-Investment Fund

    This exciting new program is now open! The Female Founders Co-Investment Fund is designed to support Qld-based, female-led, and innovation-driven organisations seeking early-stage funding, with the aim to increase participation of female founders in Queensland’s innovation ecosystem and develop robust investment pipelines for women-led businesses.

    The fund offers grants between $50,000 to $200,000 to successful applicants.

    Queensland Jobs Fund

    The Queensland Jobs Fund consists of a $5.84 billion initiative pool aimed at boosting the state’s industry footprint, generating employment and strengthening the overall state economy. Following the 2023-24 Federal Budget, an additional 53.5 million have been allocated to support new projects that will boost the development of emerging industries that support a low-emission future and more. Some of the key subcategories of this fund include:

    • Invested in Queensland Program: Strategic Investment Scheme: This initiative is aimed at supporting Queensland-based business in undertaking new investment, expansion and capability enhancements. It consists of both cash grants for tangible capital-related expenses incurred in Queensland and rebates for certain state charges.
    • Industry Partnership Program: This scheme was created with the intention of providing a range of incentives, assets and strategies that are related to the strengthening of local supply chains and growing the influence of Queensland industry.
    • Invested in Queensland Program: Investment Support Scheme: This program is involved in the distribution of financial assistance packages to incentivise certain businesses outside of Queensland to invest in Queensland through either a transfer or operation expansion.

    The South Australian Government has a range of programs to help you start, run and grow your business .

    Seed-Start (South Australia)

    This exciting program, which is open on an ongoing basis for eligible startups in South Australia, provides financial support for early-stage, high-growth potential businesses. Matched funding of up to $500,000 is on offer to assist with the cost of commercialising a product or service that is unique and has a sustainable competitive advantage in national and international markets.  Further details can be found on the  Seed - Start website.
